ASABA — Delta State Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori has been nominated for the 2026 United Nations Public Service Award for what nominators described as his demonstrable efforts to strengthen public institutions, improve citizen security, expand community-based conflict-resolution systems and widen access to justice across the state, Friday, Feb. 14, 2025.
Olufemi Aduwo, president of the Centre for Convention on Democratic Integrity and the group’s permanent representative to the U.N. Economic and Social Council, said the nomination was submitted under Sustainable Development Goal 16, which promotes peace, justice and strong institutions. He said Oborevwori’s consolidation of local peace-building structures, prudent financial management and investments in institutional resilience have positioned Delta as a model for good governance.
Aduwo described the UNPSA as one of the world’s leading recognitions for excellence in public administration. He said the U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs selects recipients through a rigorous, multi-stage review process and expressed confidence that Oborevwori’s record meets the standards of integrity, innovation, transparency and societal impact required of award laureates.
The CCDI is registered in Nigeria and the United States as a tax-exempt nongovernmental organization and holds special consultative status with ECOSOC.
