The family of late Apostle Aaron Bebenimibo, known as “The Bull of the Niger Delta,” marked the 20th anniversary of his passing, along with other fallen heroes of the Niger Delta struggle, on May 2nd. The commemoration was held in their hometown, Okerenkoko Federated Community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West LGA, where family, friends, and associates gathered to honour their memory.
During the rally and lecture, the family urged the youth of the Niger Delta region to consolidate on the ideals of the struggle by respecting the sacrifices made by the heroes of the struggle. They emphasized the importance of seeking education and skills over violence as a means of agitation for development. They believe that intellectual engagement with the government will bring about the dividends of democracy that the region deserves.
Apostle Johnny, a living hero and comrade in the struggle highlighted the significant role played by Apostle Aaron Bebenimibo in the liberation of the Niger Delta people from exclusion, oppression, and environmental hazards. He recalled Aaron’s vision of bringing development to the Niger Delta region, including good roads, portable water, primary healthcare, and equal opportunities for political involvement.
The event’s high point was the presentation of a book abstract titled “The Greatness Journey of the Niger Delta; Life Applicable Lessons from the Times and Life of Apostle Aaron Bebenimibo.” The author, DCN Ernest Bebeninibo, explained that the rationale behind the publication is to contribute to posterity a body of knowledge to furnish and educate future generations about the struggle and its benefits.
Hon. Chief Simeon Bebeninibo, who spoke on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude to all who came to celebrate with them and wished them a safe journey back to their destinations. Other notable attendees at the event included the spokesman of the IYC, the CEO of KFT Double Chief Ekomefa, the spiritual leader of Bibiopere Zion, Prophet German, Chief Ebipade Kari, Hon Mrs. Beauty Warejuowei, Mr. Ben Odiki, IYC Gbaramatu Clan Chairman, Mr. Imole Johnny, the Director-General of Ernest Bebeninibo Foundation, Comrade Amb Ogaga Darlington Ossai, and many others.
